An established manufacturer of bulk material handling equipment is looking for a qualified and cost-conscious professional to fill our open position of Production Supervisor. The successful candidate will take the initiative to increase our production stats while reducing our total cost outlay. The Production Supervisor will oversee the production staff for the assigned shift. This is a hands on role and will be actively engaged in the daily activities of the team. The Production Supervisor will be responsible to ensure all rules and schedules are followed properly and production goals are met.

Prior supervisory experience required with knowledge of sheet metal fabrication, welding processes, assembly, machine shop or a combination of experience. Computer literate in the use of Microsoft Office and with previous experience using manufacturing software.

Essential Function: Provides leadership and direction to the production team with full accountability for results in terms of quality and quantity of production by ensuring staffing is adequate and appropriately trained.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Supervises the production team and train and mentor new hires.
  • Assigns, instructs, directs, trains and assists employees to support production operation within established work week.
  • Problem solving, examines and inspect parts, gaylords, crates, materials and products to ensure required specifications are met.
  • Monitors the quality of products being produced and work closely to ensure the acceptable quality of goods.
  • Reviews production procedures and system reports to ensure all data input and records and reports are accurate.
  • Maintains time and attendance of all production employees and ensures staffing is adequate and within established guidelines.
  • Identifies, communicates, and assists in the resolution of material shortages, variances, and production downtime.
  • Evaluates and identifies sources of scrap and rework and participates in implementation of measures to correct the problems.
  • Investigates and initiates corrective action for customer complaints for all production non-conformance.
  • Ensures safety awareness and adherence to all safety policies and procedures.
  • Supports engineering projects and changes and ensures all employees are properly trained in current process.
  • Ensures employees are aware of their performance, documents incidents related to performance and performs formal appraisals at appropriate intervals.
  • Performs additional duties as directed.

Supervisory Responsibility:

  • Supervises between 20-30 bargaining unit employees.
  • 3 years of supervisory experience in a manufacturing operation utilizing fabrication, machining and/or welding processes.
  • Previous supervisory or lead person experience preferred.

Experience and Education:

  • Bachelor degree in Engineering, Technology or Business preferred.

Desired skills:

  • Ability to read and know welding symbols on a drawing.
  • Good written and verbal communication skills and basic math skills
  • Good people skills, problem solving abilities, empathy for others and a willingness to work together toward a common goal.
  • Displays original thinking and creativity; meets challenges with resourcefulness; generates suggestions for improving work; develops innovative approaches and ideas; presents ideas and information in a manner that gets others' attention.
  • Knowledge of ERP software and Microsoft Word, Excel and similar software.
